Our Djibouti holidays and tours take you to one of the smallest and least known countries in Africa. Djibouti sits on the edge of the Red Sea opposite Arabia, a cultural melting pot of African, Arabic and Indian Ocean influences. With a bleak but strikingly beautiful landscape, this tiny nation isn’t the obvious choice for a holiday destination, but for those who like their travel on the extreme side, it may well be the most exciting place in the Horn of Africa. Our Djibouti holidays and tours visit the jaw-droppingly impressive Lac Abbe, a geological wonder with limestone chimneys belching sulphurous gases, as well as Lac Assal, the lowest point in Africa. In complete contrast are the lush forests and waterfalls of Foret du Day and Bankouale, home to rare species of plants and animals, and the towns are a riot of colour, with traders coming from across the sea to rub shoulders with Afar tribesmen and French Foreign Legionnaires.
Djibouti is too often eclipsed by its far larger neighbour Ethiopia, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in spectacle.
The term “Private Tour” is widely used and interpreted differently by different tour companies. Some even label their packages “Private Group Tours”, which is rather interesting. At Explorient, we operate our Horn of Africa tours on a private basis (unless specifically indicated otherwise) in order to ensure the highest standards for our guests. Our definition of “private tour” simply means your tour, where all ground services are provided by your very own personal guide, with a private vehicle and chauffeur, exclusively for your party – nobody else. This simply translates into greater flexibility, better comfort and personalized service so you can experience the Orient the way you have always dreamt of it to be.
Small group tours with a maximum of 12 travellers and have departure dates are best for those who are eager to see the most popular sights in the Horn of Africa regions at a comparatively low price. You can book all of our group tours online or call our office. Most of our tours have the availability shown as either ‘available’, meaning the tour is available but not yet guaranteed to depart, or ‘Guaranteed’ meaning that the group has enough people booked on to operate and is definitely going ahead. Even if a tour is shown as ‘Available’ it may well be that we can guarantee it with just your reservation. Call us to check.
Scheduled Tours represent the most affordable way to experience the Visit Horn Africa. On a scheduled tour you can expect to have other people on your tour, but usually not many as they are restricted to a maximum of 14 people on a tour. Most tours are however usually conducted in a mini bus and as such the average is about 5 or 6 people on a tour. Visit Horn Africa Tours specializes in private tours and as such works with a network of operators who offer scheduled tours. Below are some of them to give you ideas on some of the options we would recommend for scheduled tours. Feel free to contact them directly and to book directly.

Unlike other operators we have done it ourselves, spending years out on the road meaning that we really do ‘know our stuff’. We have stayed at the hotels, travelled with the guides, eaten the food, hiked the volcanoes and discovered cultures untouched by the outside world, giving us the perfect insight into what makes the difference between a good tour and an amazing travel experience.

A self-guided tour means you’ll have a suggested itinerary and some amenities (such as accommodation, transport and escort) arranged by a tour operator, but you’re
ultimately responsible for getting from point A to point B each day. Where you go and how long you stay for is totally up to, and there’s no limit to the type of trip
you can create! Our self-drive tours are organised by trustworthy partners, so you can always rely on their expertise to help you plan the perfect holiday. Click the ‘Submit now’ link
