Tour Details

Explore the Horn of Africa and journey back to the dawn of civilization. These four countries can rightfully be considered the last true frontiers of Africa. In Ethiopia, we will visit the first of three monolithic cave churches of this 13th-century “New Jerusalem”. Discover some of the most exceptional rock paintings in Las Geel in Somaliland, experience the pulse of Hargeisa’s fast-growing capital, explore deserted beaches, and visit bustling market towns. Take a tour of Mogadishu. Tourists have been unable to visit Somalia (Mogadishu) for many years.

It is possible to see ancient Chinese and Italian architecture in this area. Because of safety concerns, this tour is limited to ten participants in Mogadishu. Aside from our security team, we will be traveling in two vehicles. Any changes to the itinerary will be determined by local guides and security personnel. Last but not least, the former Somali pirate capital of Eyl now resides in Garowe in the Indian Ocean. If you travel around Nugaal, you won’t encounter pirates. Instead, you’ll find an incredibly beautiful beach that can compete with any of the world’s finest beaches.

Visit the caves of Laas Geel, where rock art dating back more than 5,000 years has been found – one of the most well-preserved examples of rock art in Africa, and a highlight of the journey. A French team led by Xavier Gutherz discovered the site in 2002 during their study of the origins of pastoralism in the Horn of Africa. Along with the paintings, lithic tools were found scattered throughout the site, and there are many tombs marked with stelae and mounds in the nearby area.

There are approximately 20 rock shelters with paintings, the largest of which measures approximately 10 meters in length. Most of them appear to be humpless cows with curved or lyre-like white horns (sometimes with reddish tips) and marked udders. Take a look at the old harbor. It is the oldest port in Somalia. Visit Mogadishu’s iconic lighthouse, which was reconstructed during the Italian colonial era. While it is no longer operational, it remains an important symbol of Mogadishu’s maritime heritage. While the staircases were deliberately damaged during the Civil War, if you are brave enough to climb to the top, the view over the bay is definitely worth it.

Lunch at a local Somali restaurant. You will have the opportunity to taste some traditional Somali cuisine. You will visit bazaars and malls called Mogdishu Mall. Take a stroll through the shopping areas to gain an understanding of everyday life in Somalia. The SYL Monument is also worth visiting. Every year in Somalia, the Somali Youth League commemorates its founding on May 15, 1943.

The pirates chose Eyl as their base, where they would trade and negotiate ransoms. On the one hand, they brought a lot of money with them, which caused prices in local markets to rise and the population to earn well, but on the other hand – according to sources from the city authorities they brought crime, drugs and prostitution.
