Overview

Tour Details

Explore three of the most fascinating places in the Horn of Africa’s two least visited nations, Mogadishu (Somalia) and Somaliland, plus South Sudan.

Among them are Mogadishu, the white pearl of the Indian Ocean, which offers a variety of activities to enjoy, and Laasgeel in Somaliland, which has the oldest and best rock paintings in Africa. Moreover, you will visit the capital of the young nation and its presidential palace. Visit the Jubek tomb, talk to students at Juba University, wander the largest market in the country and see many different traditional dresses, tattoos and body scarifications.

Two nights will be spent in Mogadishu and three days of sightseeing will include Liido Beach, the lighthouse, markets, and the Peace Park. Over the course of two nights and three days, our guide took us to the key attractions in the city. This tour is limited to ten people for safety reasons. Our security team will be traveling in two vehicles. Local guides and security personnel will determine any changes in the itinerary for security reasons.

Next, we will head to Somaliland, a country with fair elections every five years in the Horn of Africa. However, it is not officially recognized internationally. It has many attractions, including caves at Las Geel and Berbera, a beach resort where you can enjoy fresh fish and relax on a totally deserted beach.

By the end of the trip, you will have gotten out of the controlled capital city of Juba and will have visited not one but two ethnic groups of South Sudan. It will be an incredible experience to meet warm local tribes and to see things that few foreigners have seen before. On our trip, we visit the incredible Mundari tribes, herders who live in symbiosis with their cattle. The chalk-like makeup covering their entire bodies makes them unmistakable.

Also, you will visit the livestock market where you can purchase your own camel or goat! For those who can’t fit a camel in their luggage, this market will provide great photo opportunities and a chance to see how the locals do business. There are cows represented, people, dogs, and even giraffes in them, dating back 5000-9000 years. We will return to Hargeisa. Overnight in Hargeisa. (BLD)

Day 7:Juba - Mundari Camp

Breakfast at the hotel in the morning. Visit Juba University, which was founded in 1975 in response to the need for higher education in the southern areas of Sudan. This is an excellent opportunity to meet South Sudan’s brightest students. Tomb of Jubek – Jubek is one of the most important figures in Bari culture, whose history is rife with tensions. Because Jubek is highly regarded in the country, the capital is named after him. Konyo Konyo is South Sudan’s largest market. It is an incredible fusion of the diverse ethnicities of South Sudan. In the afternoon, departure to Mundari camp – the driving time varies, as the Mundari camp always moves around. From 15 minutes to three hours! During the drive, we stop at small villages or for photo opportunities. As you continue onwards, you will be introduced to a Mundari settlement, where the village chief will personally grant you further access to the tribe.

Highlight of the trip – The herders will return to the village around sunset with their livestock in masses and begin preparing them for the evening. In addition to creating a unique atmosphere, the smoke prepared by the Mundari to repel mosquitoes will create a mist. An evening of games with the Mundari people and an overnight camping trip. (BLD)

Day 8:Mundari Camp – Terekeka – Juba

Wake up early in the morning to watch or participate in the herders preparing their cattle for the day. Locals are always busiest in the morning. They will be glad to help you with any chores.

In the afternoon, we’ll have lunch before returning to Juba. After that, we’ll check into our hotel rooms and freshen up. You will pass the Presidential Palace – the home of South Sudan’s leader, Salva Kiir Mayardit, who is easily identifiable with his cowboy hat. Visit the John Garang Mausoleum – John Garang promoted Sudanism, an ideology that was meant to bring all Sudanese together regardless of their ethnicity (Animists, Christians, Muslims, Arabs, Blacks) and embrace all cultures. We will end the day exploring Juba’s Craft Market and having a farewell dinner with our local guides. In the evening, we will explore Juba’s nightlife. (BLD)

Day 9:Departure from Jubba

After breakfast, transfer to the airport and end of the tour. (B)
