Overview

Tour Details

Puntland is named after the legendary land known to the ancient Egyptians as Punt, and includes Cape Guardafui, the most eastern point in Africa. In August 1998, the new government was formed in response to escalating clan warfare in southern Somalia following Siad Barre’s fall, and its constitution was drafted at a three-month constitutional conference in Garoowe, which was attended by the region’s leading politicians, clan elders, businessmen, and intellectuals.

Puntland has a similar political structure to Somaliland, in which clan elders play an important role in supporting the democratically elected president. But unlike its western neighbour, it has never sought formal independence, and its long-term goal is to become a federal state within a greater Somalia. Located in the northeastern part of Somalia, it is the country’s largest and most beautiful coastline. It has a very warm climate, however, its beautiful beaches will allow you to withstand the heat without difficulty. Puntland has access to both the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, which would be ideal for sailing if there were no pirates. Therefore, if you do not wish to run into the real Jack Sparrow, it would be best to stay near the shoreline.

Overnight in Bosaso and stay your assigned hotel.

Day 2:Bosaso - Qardho - Eyl

In the morning, we will travel to Qardho, the former capital city of Somali pirates in Puntland state of Somalia, and en route, we will visit Qardho, the oldest settlement in Puntland. A history buff will find this quite interesting since Qardho was the capital of the Majeerteen Sultanate during the early modern era and at the end of the 20th century, and it is also the home of the King of Puntland, who you may be able to meet during your short visit to Qardho. In the early 20th century, the city was controlled by the Italians as a part of the Italian Somalia region. In the late afternoon, you will arrive in Eyl, where you will have dinner and spend the night.

During your stay in Eyl the Somali former pirate capital of Eyl in the Indian Ocean from Garowe. After a long drive around the Nugaal region you will not run into pirates, but come across the incredibly beautiful beach that can stand alongside every other famous beach in the world! and you will not expect this from Somalia?

The pirates chose Eyl as their base, where they would trade and negotiate ransoms. On the one hand, they brought a lot of money with them, which caused prices in local markets to rise and the population to earn well, but on the other hand – according to sources from the city authorities they brought crime, drugs and prostitution. Spend the night in Eyl.

Day 3:Eyl - Garowe

A tour of Eyl is scheduled after breakfast. After finishing the tour of Eyl, we will travel to Garowe, Puntland’s capital. While visiting Puntland’s capital, we will take a tour of its historical monuments, cultural markets, and everyday life, see the economic engines of industry and trade within the city and rural life.
