You are looking for a tour that takes you to three interesting countries in the Horn of Africa on a budget. This tour may be the perfect choice for you if you are looking to see Somaliland, Djibouti, and Eritrea on one trip.
There are a number of highlights of this new adventure destination, including Somaliland (not to be confused with greater Somalia), the enigmatic and little-visited Djibouti, as well as Eritrea, which has recently emerged from decades of isolation and is ready to welcome the world.
When you arrive in Djibouti city, you will be greeted by an airport pickup and driven to Ras Dika hotel. If your arrival time permits, you will have a city tour; otherwise, you will stay in the hotel for the remainder of the day. Overnight Ras Dika hotel or similar
After breakfast, we then drive to Lake Assal, the lowest point in Africa. On our way, we also visit the Panoramic view of Canyon Adaleh and the Panoramic view of Goubet. In Lake Assal, the big salt field makes you feel like walking in nowhere land. The water has bright colors that change from time to time because of the sun’s reflection. The trip ends with a drive back to Djibouti City and overnight Ras Dika hotel or similar.
Upon arrival in Hargeisa, you will be taken to your hotel. We will provide a walking tour of the city center if there is sufficient time. Depending on your arrival time in Hargeisa, if you arrive in the morning you will have a full day of city sightseeing, but if you arrive in the evening you will stay at your hotel the rest of the day. Overnight at the Damal Hotel.
Early morning visit camel market before travel the caves of Laas Geel, where rock art dating back more than 5,000 years has been found – one of the most well-preserved examples of rock art in Africa, and a highlight of the journey. A French team led by Xavier Gutherz discovered the site in 2002 during their study of the origins of pastoralism in the Horn of Africa. Along with the paintings, lithic tools were found scattered throughout the site, and there are many tombs marked with stelae and mounds in the nearby area.
There are approximately 20 rock shelters with paintings, the largest of which measures approximately 10 meters in length. Most of them appear to be humpless cows with curved or lyre-like white horns (sometimes with reddish tips) and marked udders. After returning to Hargeisa city, and overnight in Hargeisa at the Damal hotel.
Upon arrival at Asmara International Airport from Djibouti, you will be taken to your hotel after completing customs formalities. You will have the opportunity to tour the city if time permits. Otherwise, you will remain at the hotel for the remainder of the day. Overnight in Asmara at the Star hotel or similar.
In the early morning, we will travel to Massawa, a harbour town on the Red Sea. Once we arrive in Massawa, we will visit the archeological sites and buildings built by the Egyptians and Turks. After lunch, return to Asmara for the city tour. We will visit the National Museum of Eritrea and the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary. We also stopped by the Enda Mariam Orthodox Cathedral for a photo. In the late afternoon, we’ll visit Medebar, one of the most popular markets in the city. Overnight in Asmara at the Star Hotel or a similar.
On the final day of your tour, you will have some free time to explore Asmara city if time permits before your departure. Our tour guide will take you to the airport for your flight back home, or to your next destination.
