In recent years, Eritrea has been lazily compared to North Korea in Africa. The answer is no, I believe. Although this proud nation state lacks the political freedoms that seemed so precious at independence, it has much more to offer than its current isolationist leadership. It is fascinating to witness the colonial architecture and cultural heritage of Asmara, as well as the jarringly different feeling of Keren, which today is more influenced by the Sudan than Italy.
Massawa, which has access to the Red Sea, is Eritrea’s future. It is difficult to imagine the future even with stifling humidity and languid decay. Eritreans desire change while acknowledging their debt to the heroes of the War of Independence. As a result of the process of rapprochement with Ethiopia, the conflict has officially ended.
We offer tours in Eritrea and in combination with other countries in the Horn of Africa. Through these tours, travelers will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of one of the world’s most proud, resilient, and historically fascinating nations.
In addition to being one of the world’s best preserved examples of Art Deco architecture, Asmara is also one of the most incongruous places on earth. Dahlak Islands offer excellent diving and fascinating marine life, while Red Sea towns such as Massawa provide a glimpse of Ottoman heritage.
Upon arrival at Asmara International Airport, you will be assisted with customs formalities and transferred to your hotel. A tour of Asmara will be conducted in the afternoon, depending on the time of your arrival. It may be possible for the tour guide to guide visitors to some of the fascinating and exciting sights in Asmara, depending on the amount of time available. Overnight in Asmara at the Star hotel or similar one.
In the morning, after breakfast, we will travel to Massawa, which has been an important port in the region for centuries. Massawa is the perfect destination for all tastes with its beautiful mosques, elegant Turkish-Egyptian-Italian architecture, shopping arcades, and delicious sea food.
Besides the attractions of the city, pristine beaches and swimming spots can be found just a short distance from the city center. At the end of the Massawa tour, we return to your hotel in Massawa and stay at the Dahlak hotel or similar.
After the morning tour of Massawa, you will return to Asmara, traveling uphill en-route to Ghindae via the Massawa-Asmara road. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking scenery of majestic peaks and vast valleys. Your overnight accommodation in Asmara will be at the Star Hotel.
On your final day, you will depart from Asmara. If you have some time before your flight, we recommend visiting the local markets to buy some souvenirs or trying some Eritrean cuisine. Eritrean cuisine is delicious, and some of the must-try dishes include injera, tsebhi, and shiro.
